The “godfather of soul” James Brown passed away early Christmas morning. An original artist in his own right, Brown helped create the rap, funk and disco music revolutions.

At age 73, Brown was suffering from pneumonia which led to heart failure. The often controversial singer was well loved by millions of fans, despite is turbulent life. Known for his alcohol and drug use, James Brown was also arrested for domestic abuse.

Never one to shy away from the press, Brown continued performing and entertaining fans through 2006.

James Brown will be missed.
