For book and movie fans alike, knowing the details of each Harry Potter character can help you decide who you are most like. Learning this likeness is fun and can give you a greater understanding of the books. Here are some character personality descriptions to guide your decision.

Are You Brave & Loving Like Harry Potter?

If you are brave, loving and friendly you may be Harry Potter. He is full of love from his family and friends. He has courage in his endeavors and is loyal to those close to him. His devotion to the defeat of evil is evident in every decision he makes. His Defense Against the Dark Arts skills allow him to conquer the dangers around him. He is willing to sacrifice himself for his friends. If you are devoted to the people you love, you may be most like Harry Potter.

Are You Smart & Witty Like Hermione Granger?

Are you known for your intelligence, quick thinking and wisdom past your years? You may be like Hermione Granger. She seems to have more knowledge than some of her professors, and her decision making skills are errorless. Her thinking skills allow her to help her friends when they are in need from the case of a homework problem to a deathly injury in need of healing. Her bravery also shines through when she takes on such dangerous journeys with her friends. If you are known for your thinking abilities and commitment to your friends, you may be most like Hermione Granger.

Are Your Funny & Endearing Like Ronald Weasley?

Do you have a good sense of humor, honor your friends and family, and handle yourself well in strange situations? Ronald Weasley also has these qualities. He may not be the best student, but he is hard working and knows to look on the bright side of things. He also can adapt to difficult situations. For example, in the end of the last book, Ron is able to mimic Harry’s Pastletounge to access the Chamber of Secrets. If you see these qualities in yourself, you may be most like Ron Weasley.

Are You Protective & Strong Like Severus Snape?

Are you brave, cunning, sarcastic, and secretly loving? Severus Snape has these qualities. The majority of these characteristics are evident throughout the entire series, and some of his internal qualities are revealed in the chapter “The Prince’s Tale” in the final book. Severus is protective and strong. He is confident and determined. He is truly and deeply devoted to those he loves, yet he has dark characteristics that make him a unique character. If you find yourself to have a deep emotional side along with a sarcastic personality, you may be like Severus Snape.

Other characters of popular similarity are Draco Malfoy, Luna Lovegood, and Albus Dumbledore. It’s up to you to decide who your Harry Potter match is.

Even though less than 1% of Americans are formally affiliated with Buddhism, there are no shortages of reports on celebrities who practice the Eastern religious tradition. It seems that these days, more and more people are following the words of Buddha, with nearly three of every four Buddhists in the United States converting from a different faith. The religion’s influence continues to spread, especially among those walking down the red carpet. Here are some notable A-listers who can be linked to Buddhism:

Tiger Woods – Recent scandal involving Tiger Woods has prompted him to talk about his involvement (or lack thereof) with Buddhism, the religion that he’s practiced since childhood from the influence of his Thai mother. He has admitted that in recent years he lost touch with his faith, but vows to return to the teachings in order to straighten out his private life. Given his superstar status, he has even received personal advice from the Dalai Lama himself.

Maddox Jolie – While mama Angelina doesn’t consider herself a Buddhist, she does say that she wants the religion to be an important part of her adopted Cambodian son’s life. Maddox has spent a lot of time in temples with monks and is actively learning about the faith with his parents’ guidance.

Phil Jackson – Also known as the Zen Master, the winningest basketball coach in NBA history uses Buddhist methods and practices both on and off the court. He even encourages his players to practice Buddhist philosophy, which many believe has contributed to his great success leading teams to championships.

Russell Simmons – Russell Simmons, co-founder of hip-hop label Def Jam and creator of the Phat Farm clothing line, is one of the few known Buddhists in the hip hop world. He has been called the “Zen of Hip Hop,” and has even written books about how both yoga and Buddhism has influenced his ways of thinking and being.

Steven Seagal – The actor and martial artist has spent a significant amount of time outside of the United States, and along the way has adopted Tibetan Buddhist beliefs. His religious affiliation has helped him become guardian and bodyguard to the only child of the 10th Panchen Lama of Tibet, an honor no other American has ever had.

Steve Jobs - The Apple CEO and icon Steve Jobs converted to Buddhism after a spiritual retreat to India in the 70’s. It is said that Jobs returned to the U.S. with a shaved head and traditional Indian clothing, and soon after went on to create the beginnings of Apple Computer.

Orlando Bloom – In 2004, Bloom became an official member of a Nichiren Buddhist association, and he has even had a hand in advocacy. The actor has helped spread the ideas of Buddhism to several former dating partners, most notably ex-girlfriend Kate Bosworth and current wife Miranda Kerr.

Goldie Hawn/Kate Hudson – Actresses Goldie Hawn and Kate Hudson have both embraced Buddhism despite their Jewish heritage. The mother and daughter duo actively promote the Eastern philosophy – Hawn through her foundation which teaches Buddhist techniques and Hudson with her boyfriends. Ex-beau Alex Rodriguez of the New York Yankees was said to be contemplating converting to Buddhism before they split.

Uma Thurman – Often listed as a celebrity Buddhist, Uma Thurman has admitted that religion has not played a big role in her life despite her father’s heavy involvement in the religion. Robert Thurman is one of the most influential American Buddhist authors and professors who gave his daughter a Tibetan name meaning “Great Middle Way.”

Richard Gere – Actor Richard Gere has been completely open about his personal relationship with the Dalai Lama, doing several interviews about his journey as a Buddhist and his work as a human rights advocate for Tibet. He has even introduced the religion to J-Lo, who took an interest in Buddhism after working with Gere on the film “Shall We Dance?”

Other famous celebrities who are affiliated with Buddhism include Keanu Reaves, Tina Turner, Courtney Love, and martial artists Jet Li, Jackie Chan, and Bruce Lee.

Jena Hayashi is a guest blogger for My Dog Ate My Blog and a writer on online degrees for Guide to Online Schools.

Whether they be lovable losers or just down on their luck, pop culture is full of characters we can’t help rooting for as they struggle with poverty. Here are the top seven poorest characters from pop culture.

7. The Tramp (Charlie Chaplin)

The immortal Charlie Chaplin set the standard for poor guys with love with his portrayal of the loveable tramp in the early days of motion pictures. The Tramp doesn’t want much out of the world and it breaks are heart when he gets it or loses it at the last moment.

6. Rocky Balboa (Rocky)

Rocky might have heart but he lives in a dive you wouldn’t wish or your worst enemy. Which is why we can’t help pulling for him when he gets a shot at the title. We know that, win or lose, he won’t be going back to that hovel and we couldn’t be happier for him.

5. Ralph Kramden (The Honeymooners)

The King of the loveable losers, Kramden, a bus driver, has dreams bigger than his ability – if not bigger than his waistline. Every episode features some hair-brained scheme he has to make life better for himself and his wife. His heart is in the right place even if his brains aren’t.

4. Willie Loman (Death of a Salesman)

Here’s a guy who has to commit suicide to make a buck and can’t even do that right. And yet, at heart, he is not a bad guy. The world has changed and he refused to change with it. Add to that the blind eye he turns to anyone who could help him and you’ve got the makings of a modern day tragedy to rival Shakespeare.

3. Peter Parker (Spider-Man)

Sure, he’s everyone’s favorite webslinger but as Peter Parker, this character is a bust. He never has any money, can’t pay his rent, bills or buy food. However he’s anything but irresponsible. That’s right, Peter is broke because he’s out day and night keeping the streets safe for you and me. What’s not to love about a guy like that?

2. Jim (The Adventures Of Huckleberry Finn)

Poor Jim is a slave when we first meet him in this timeless novel by Mark Twain who has run away because his owner was about to sell him. Seeking his freedom he teams up with Huckleberry Finn and they work together to achieve their goals. Along the way, Jim’s simple wisdom and knowledge of right and wrong keep the pair on track no matter how much trouble they get into.

1. Oliver Twist (Oliver Twist)

The poster boy for poverty whose: “Please, sir, I want some more” summed up the needs of countless poor and destitute on the London streets of Charles Dickens’s time. When it comes to poor pop culture characters, look no further than Oliver Twist. Abandoned and victim to a system that chews up and spits out thousands just like him and you see a character with the deck stacked against him.

I will admit to not being an avid Facebook user. I keep in contact with friends who do not live close by or who I have not seen since high school. I post a picture or two of my baby niece or myself at the top of a mountain. I have a measly 96 friends (*gasp*) and I am more likely to check Facebook from my iPhone than to ever log in on a computer.

But I have a confession. I HATE Farmville.

For all three of you who are not aware of the Farmville phenomena, Wikipedia describes Farmville as “a real-time farm simulation game developed by Zynga, available as an application on the social networking website Facebook.” In the past, I too have found myself in love with mindless gaming. I’ve played more hours of Tetris and Pong of all things (and I am only 28, not quite ancient yet) on my calculator in high school and had a love affair with Katamari (a game in which a little guy rolls up items to make a bigger ball) a few years back. I almost failed a semester of college because I wasn’t sleeping because of Snood!

Facebook Farmville Game

Facebook's Farmville Game

Even with all of that, I stand by my very strong dislike. Every time I log into Facebook I am attacked by found kittens, lost cows, and oversized potatoes. Sometimes there are so many of them I imagine I am in a room filling with small stuffed representations, like a full claw machine…and like the claw machine, I can never pull the information out of my news stream that I really want. I am drowning in a vat of people helpfully sharing imaginary fuel and watering imaginary plants while the farm owners are away.

Maybe I’m cynical and bitter, but I find Farmville just about as useful as the Tamagotchi Giga Pets that were insanely popular when I was a child. Cute, fuzzy graphics to go with inane and pointless actions. Nonetheless, I have to give mad props to whoever created this monstrosity and whatever gaming schools they went to. They seem to have inspired millions of individuals who would otherwise be hard at work, hanging out with friends, or even playing Snood instead invest their time in participating in online physical labor.

Written by Genevieve, a casual gamer who works in affiliation with Westwood College in their game design colleges.

Lately there is great buzz about the so-called “celebrity diets”. These are the diets followed by celebrities and they manage to lose weight fast and with minimum effort. The question that many ordinary people have is “Will these diets work for me?” Unfortunately not; and there are some reasons why this is not going to happen.

First of all not every celebrity diet available can produce results. In fact some of them are just marketing tricks who take advantage of the appearance of the celebrity person. In other words they are using a celebrity to convince you that if you buy their product you will look the same. It is the same as the TV advertisements where they hire a celebrity to promote a product.

There are cases though where the diets are effective for celebrity people but not as effective for ordinary people. Let’s see why:

Celebrities are motivated to lose weight and you are not

Celebrities and generally people in the show business have more reasons to lose weight and look great than you. They are always in the front line and to survive in this business you have to stand out of the crowd. The physical appearance is very important for them and their business. That reason alone makes them committed to their weight loss program and they get the results they want.

Celebrities have the resources (time and money) to deal with weight loss. Losing weight is not difficult but it may take time and sometimes it needs money. Celebrities can hire dedicated experts (trainers, chefs, dieticians) to help them out. They can also allocate enough hours per day working out in the gym or doing fitness courses because this is part of their job.

The main point is that there is no ‘special secret’ in the celebrity diets that make them work. All you need in getting rid of those extra pounds is willpower, guidance, time and effort. Once you have the determination to lose weight you need to come out with a plan. This will be your guide until you meet your weight loss goals. In the plan you can specify what chances you need to do in your diet so as to minimize the calories you consume daily. You will also specify how many exercise sessions you need to perform per week and how much pounds you need to lose per month in order to meet your target. You do not have to rush or push yourself too hard. Consistency wins the race. Better start slow and easy and gradually make your diet stricter and your exercise sessions longer and harder.

Weight loss is a big project and this is how you should approach it. Stick to your plan for a number of weeks or months and you will see that at the end you will be the weight loss celebrity!

This is a guest post by Chris. Chris has a weight loss blog where he shares weight loss tips on how to lose weight. All his articles are based on healthy and natural ways to lose weight.

Many Drama School and Acting School acting courses focus on a mixture of different approaches, which, on the face of it, you would think is a good thing. However, whilst you get a broad exposure to different techniques, it doesn’t give you a defined process. You end up knowing a little about a lot of techniques rather than mastering any.

I favour acting courses and acting classes that impart a definite process to get your acting to a top level.

Throughout this summer, I will be holding 3 Day Boot Camps on the world’s most successful acting process – Method Acting.

Method Acting is used by many of the world’s top actors and produces real, in-depth and highly believable acting.

Why mess around with other techniques when, quite clearly, The Method is the undisputed heavyweight of actor training?

If it’s good enough for Al Pacino, it’s good enough for me.

I would describe my 3 Day Introduction to Method Acting Boot Camp as an inspiring and life changing event. If you don’t believe me, you can listen to the video comments of my past students at www.briantimoneyacting.co.uk/introduction-to-method-acting

My forte is taking people’s current ability and taking it to a top level. The first step in the process is understanding where your ability is, and how you can develop your inner talent. Most acting courses focus on the actor saying the lines effectively and not bumping into the furniture. That is all too easy, and certainly not enough to develop your talent to a top professional level.

The next step after my Boot Camp is my part time One Year Ultimate Acting Programme. This is the ‘mother’ of all acting courses, which includes comprehensive and challenging method acting training, an LA Boot Camp with world class teachers, a Casting Director and an Agent visit, and an exclusive end of year career launch at The Groucho Club, Soho, London – where Casting Directors and Agents will see your work.

If you want a sizzling and inspiring summer this year, come to my Boot Camp. You will find full details at: www.briantimoneyacting.co.uk/introduction-to-method-acting

One of the best parts about my job is hearing success stories from aspiring actors, singers, dancers and models whose hard work is paying off in the industry. Hardly a day goes by that I don’t hear or read about someone who’s finally getting a chance to go out on an audition, or someone who’s booked really huge role.

If you read yesterday’s blog, then you read all about Melina Rochelle and her new role in City Kid, the musical. Melina Rochelle is a singer and an actress and although she doesn’t have an agent, she’s been working hard and landing great opportunities in Hollywood. Yesterday she offered some really great tips that have helped her succeed in the industry. Here are a few more tips she had to share:

“Always be prepared. If you’re a singer or an actor, always have a song or monologue that you can perform upon request. If you’re a dancer, have something prepared that showcases what you do best. If you’re a model, always have photos or composite cards on hand at all times.”

“Don’t wait around for someone to discover your talents. Showcase yourself. Whether it’s through your own production or talent showcase, get yourself out there. My sisters and I started our own production company and produced a musical that was reviewed in the LA Weekly and nominated for several awards.”

“And last but not least, be sure to use the internet to your advantage. You can find really great information and opportunities on the web to help you further your career.”

Those are really great tips and I hope you find them to be useful. I also hope you’ll visit our site for auditions and casting notices and keep me posted on your achievements in the industry. Just this past week over 7.000 members on our site were contacted by casting directors and other industry professionals. You can get the same results!

I hope you’ll read my blog tomorrow when I share information about turning a new role into representation! Thanks for stopping by!

About the Author:

My name is Jonathan Parker and I’m the Founder of Star Search Casting ( http://StarSearchCasting.com ). Back in 1998, after working in the entertainment industry for a number of years as a talent scout, I became aware of so many individuals with tremendous potential that just weren’t getting the exposure they needed to succeed. That’s when I first conceived of Star Search Casting as a way to help people be “discovered” by getting their faces and resumes in front of thousands of entertainment professionals who were in the position to hire them. Years in development, Star Search Casting became not only the most sophisticated casting site with the most advanced search engine, talent database, and tools to help you get maximum exposure, it also became the number one site where industry professionals go to find new talent!! I can’t tell you how absolutely thrilled I am that SSC has achieved the goal I had in mind when it was originally created!

Pick Appropriate Audition Speeches

You will be required by most acting schools to learn two audition speeches. One modern and one Shakespeare. Modern means any play written in the last 100 years (roughly). An audition speech is a monologue given by a character in a play directed to another character or given by a character speaking out their own internal thoughts to themselves. The latter, Shakespeare referred to as soliloquies.

I would recommend finding speeches said by characters of a similar age and type to you. If you are 18, it‘s easier for you to relate to, play, and be convincing to a panel, as an 18 year old character from a play. Obviously, you can widen the age range but I would veer away from characters that are much older than you.
Also, find characters that you can relate to and who are of a similar type. It‘s best to make the process as simple and enjoyable as possible. Find characters you resonate with and enjoy playing. If they are of a similar type to you, it will be easier to produce high quality acting for the part.

Get Professional Coaching

Most Drama Students take professional acting lessons and acting classes run by professional coaches to practice and perfect their audition speeches. If you decide not to do this, remember you may be up against students who have been perfecting speeches for years with professional coaches.

Know the Character and Play Inside Out

You MUST know the character and play intimately. During your Drama School auditions, you may be asked questions by the audition panel on the character and the play. The panel will know many of the plays very well. They will ask you questions to make sure you are committed and to ensure you‘ve done your homework.

Take Re-Direction

If they ask you to do your speech in a different way, this is called re-direction. They are doing this to see if you can do it differently when requested or if you keep repeating it the same way. You MUST take the re-direction fully. However they ask for it to be redone, don’t question it, and fulfill it as fully as possible.
If you fail to take the direction, it will be a mark against you.

Don‘t Block In Improvisations

If they ask you to improvise, just throw yourself in and don‘t block the other actors. Here is an example of ’blocking‘.

Actor A: Hello, would you like to go for a walk?

Actor B: No, I don‘t want to.

Actor A: Oh, go on.

Actor B: No, I want to be left alone.

Actor B is blocking and that won‘t be liked by a panel.

They are looking for people to join in, communicate, and create.

Also, don‘t take yourself out of any group situation they put you in. If you don‘t join in or are reticent, they will think you‘re not a team player.

It would be a wise move, in advance of your acting training, to take acting courses in improvisation so you are at home with this acting technique.

Following these five points will help you gain entry into Drama School.

Thousands of members on our site have booked exciting jobs in Hollywood without an agent. Often aspiring actors, models, singers and dancers think they don’t have a shot at making their dreams come true because they don’t have an agent. But this couldn’t be further from the truth. There are tons of opportunities available to you, even if you don’t have representation. Don’t let lack of an agent or manager stand in your way.

Melina Rochelle, a singer and actress living in Los Angeles, knows all about the challenges of looking for work without an agent. “I was worried that because I didn’t have an agent, I wouldn’t be able to audition for roles that I really wanted. Initially I was discouraged but I didn’t let it stop me.” Instead, she began doing her own research and was able to find lots of opportunities. And in no time she was landing great jobs.

This fall she will appear in the musical City Kid at the Hudson Theatre in Los Angeles in the role of Niki. “I’m so excited! It’s a great role and I get to showcase my singing and my acting in a really great show.” When asked how she’s managed to get such great opportunities without an agent or manager, Melina Rochelle offered this advice:

“Just because you don’t have an agent doesn’t mean you can’t submit yourself. Do your research. There are lots of resources that list opportunities that you can submit yourself for without the assistance of representation.”

It seems that launching a signature scent has become the norm as celebs expand their options and it’s no wonder – who wouldn’t want a slice of this multi-billion dollar industry? But don’t be too quick to judge celebrity perfumes. While many fail to impress beyond the initial hype, some actually do stand the test of time. After all, the proof is in the smelling and if you like a particular fragrance, it doesn’t really matter whose name is attached to it. Or does it?

Let’s take Britney Spears and all her troubles as a perfect example. Now I wouldn’t normally go out of my way to try Britney’s perfume but working as I do in the industry means that I get to try perfumes irrespective of my personal preferences. And you know what, I actually quite like Britney’s Curious (although I am partial to almost any vanilla-based fragrance). I’ve tried introducing Curious to friends and although some of them have liked it, they would never admit to wearing a Britney perfume. So it just goes to show, celebrity endorsement doesn’t always guarantee a winner.

Nevertheless, celebs know a money-spinner when they see one and continue to jump on the fragrance bandwagon. Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that all celebrity perfumes are just about making money without any real commitment to the product. I like to believe that some celebs do actually have an interest and in some cases, even a personal say in the creation of their fragrances. JLo for example (another of my favourite brands incidentally) makes quite a lot of the fact that each one of her fragrances represents an aspect of her own life and personality and I for one believe her. Let’s face it, in celeb fragrance terms, JLo is an experienced professional, having launched her first fragrance, Glow, back in 2002. But I think that she’s the exception rather than the rule and I think most celebs are happy to sprout the marketing blurb that’s been written for them.

I’m sure it’s the success of fragrances like JLo’s Miami Glow which has spurred celebrity perfumes on but these days, they seem to be churning them out at an alarming rate. Mariah Carey is about to launch the follow up to ‘M’ with Mariah Carey’s Luscious Pink and Jessica Simpson is releasing Fancy. In the UK, B-list celebrities are also getting in on the action. We’ve had Kerry Katona with Outrageous and Jade Goody has just announced a follow up to her previous fragrance, Shh… Jade Goody, with a new one called Controversial. Now is it just me or does it seem like fragrance manufacturers are simply working their way through the dictionary as they name these fragrances? To be fair though, as I said in the beginning, the proof is in the smelling so I guess I’ll just have to test these fragrances before passing judgement.

Similar to celebrity fragrance but slightly different is celebrity endorsement. This is where a celebrity lends his or her face (and very often body) to a particular fragrance brand. This is a win-win situation for both the brand (they retain branding of the product while still benefiting from the celebrity’s status and ability to sell) and the celebrity who gets money and much needed exposure. But this isn’t always a win for the consumer and you have to wonder how many manufacturers rely on celebrity endorsements to sell fragrances which would normally be seen as quite ordinary. A recent example would be Davidoff’s Adventure which used Ewan “Long Way” McGregor as its face but was panned by critics as being “anything but adventurous”. As with celebrity fragrances however, you can’t write off a fragrance simply because it has celebrity endorsement and I for one am looking forward to the release of Estée Lauder’s Sensuous which, although promoted by no less than four celebs (Elizabeth Hurley, Carolyn Murphy, Hilary Rhoda and Gwyneth Paltrow) promises to be Estée Lauder’s most exciting release in recent years.
