Cosmetic dentistry can, to a large extent, correct a multitude of dental conditions and restore happiness and self confidence in many individuals who are unhappy with their appearance. It has been a great support for many of Hollywood’s most well known stars, giving them the confidence to smile and interact in the public eye. Tom Cruise, Demi Moore, and Ben Affleck are said to owe their immaculate teeth to the cosmetic dental profession. Let us look at some of the celebrities who could sport a much more attractive appearance with the help of cosmetic dentistry.

Morgan Freeman is one of the most acclaimed character actors alive today whose smile could definitely be improved with cosmetic dentistry. He has stained teeth, which could be simply corrected with teeth whitening. In addition, his teeth are misaligned and could benefit with a straightening process.

Woody Harrelson who became a household name after starring in the popular sitcom Cheers has not-so-perfect teeth. His teeth are small, asymmetrical, discolored, with visible gaps between them. A cosmetic dentist would recommend gum contouring that would remove the excess gum tissue covering his teeth. This would make his the length of crowns seem greater and more proportionate to his face. Lindsay Lohan is another limelight figure who could benefit from cosmetic dentistry. She was noted for her adorable role as twin sisters in a remake of The Parent Trap released in 1998. However, her erratic lifestyle and battle with drugs and alcohol may have been one of the causes of her discolored, decayed uneven teeth that caught the media spotlight in the latter half of 2011 at a celebrity event. If she were to consider cosmetic dental treatment, her dentist would advise her first of all to refrain from alcohol, drugs and other products that can aggravate her dental condition. Before any treatment is actually carried out, the dentist would find out whether she has any pre-existing oral health problems that needed remedial treatment. Dental crowns/veneers would be recommended to make her teeth look more attractive and natural.

Kirsten Dunst is an award winning actress who has been much applauded for her exceptional acting ability from a very young age. In Interview with the Vampire (1994), Dunst donned the role of Claudia, the vampire. Drop Dead Gorgeous and the smash hit Spiderman trilogy are her other well-known movies. Side by side with her acting skills, her ‘snaggle-fangs’ also distinguish her. The actress herself says she has no issues with her teeth – which she believes give her some degree of character – despite them being misaligned and with an overbite. There is no doubt that her looks would improve if she were to undergo cosmetic treatment using Invisalign ^TM that are virtually ‘invisible’ braces nobody would even notice. The treatment could be easily completed in a matter of 6 to 12 months.

Steve Buscemi is an actor whose teeth seem to be apt for the kind of creepy roles he often plays, but a Florida based dentist is said to have remarked that Buscemi seems to have some level of gum disease (gingivitis) which could easily be treated using antibiotics, professional dental cleansing or surgery. Buscemi is reported to have stated that if he sought to fix his teeth that would be the end of his acting career. However, a dentist would advise him to undergo treatment for his alleged gum disease to avoid other health problems, after which braces or porcelain veneers and dental crowns could be provided to make his smile healthy and appealing.

Cynthia Nixon of Sex and the City has a noticeable overbite that can be corrected with braces. A gum manipulation procedure and porcelain veneers are ideal procedures to address her ‘gummy’ smile. Cosmetic dentistry could help her become a more attractive actress in the many roles she plays on TV as well as the big screen.

Woody Harrelson is another actor who can take advantage of cosmetic dental treatment to straighten his small, uneven, gapped teeth. Porcelain veneers, crown lengthening and cosmetic bonding would give him a great looking smile.

Anna Paquin, the True Blood fame, could also benefit from orthodontic Invisalign treatment or porcelain veneers. This would correct the large gap between her front teeth and improve her smile.

George Clooney is said to have undergone some form of cosmetic dental treatment. Clooney is reported to have obtained treatment for his Bruxism or tooth grinding problem. It seems his dentist recommended veneers and crown lengthening surgery to raise the gum line and expose more teeth.

There are dentists who say that Tom Cruise could do with some more cosmetic dental work to improve his smile, though he already has undergone a great deal of dental treatment since his early days of acting. Other celebrities who could have more attractive smiles with the help of cosmetic dentistry include Michael Strahan, commentator for the NFL and ex-defensive end for the NY Giants, Hillary Clinton, Caroline Kennedy, Katie Couric, Condoleezza Rice, Jewel and Jennifer Garner.

Ale vs. Lager

There are many dichotomies in life and the stance we take on these can often be very informative about who we are, and what our values and priorities are in life. Some examples are Apple versus PC, the Beetles versus the Stones, Nintendo versus Sega, tea versus coffee, and Marvel versus DC – but there are many other out there all begging us to choose a side. One of the biggest divisions of all though, and particularly for the red-blooded males among us, is the age old dispute between ales and lagers. Some of us are card carrying members of the ale party, enjoying drinks like Newcastle Brown or London Pride, while others prefer a lighter tasting lager such as Kronenberg or Budweiser. Then there are those of us who didn’t even realise there were different kinds of beer. You know who you are…

But the question that remains is precisely what is the difference between ale and lager? And how do you go about choosing which is right for you? Here we will answer those question.

On the Surface

You can tell a lager from an ale simply by looking at them. A lager will generally be golden in color and will be quite transparent and carbonated. For many in the US this is the most common form of beer and if you’re a fan of a Bud or a Stella then that’s a good template for what they look like. Meanwhile an ale will be darker in color, more of a light brown, and will often be thicker in appearance and more opaque. The froth will often look creamier, and there will be less fizz.

The test is also informative and quite different for the two types. Lager on the one hand is known for being refreshing and is a light and crisp drink. Ale meanwhile is a heavier tasting drink and is often more bitter in flavour with a stronger and longer lasting after taste. Which you prefer will be a completely subjective matter, but it’s probably fair to say that ale is something of a more acquired taste.

Fermentation

This difference comes about as a result of the way these two types of beer are made which cause a range of changes to the taste and color of the drinks. Fermentation is the term for the process in which alcohol is added to wort. Wort is the beer mix pre alcohol and consists of brewed grains and hops (the bitter fruits from vine plants). Once these have been prepared, yeast is then added to the mixture and this will feast on the sugar released from the grain in order to produce alcohol and CO2.

The difference comes from the length of time that a beer is left fermenting. Ales are referred to as ‘top-fermenting’ because they are fermented by the yeast on the top of the beer. This requires just a few weeks at room temperature to occur. However lagers are ‘bottom-fermenting’ meaning that the yeast from the bottom of the drink are the ones producing the alcohol. This takes longer and occurs at lower temperatures – in fact this is where the word lager comes from, translating from the German as ‘to store’.

Complications

There are a few complications however and a couple of awkward beers that don’t fit comfortably into either category. For instance if you would prefer to sit on the fence, then you might like ‘California’ which uses lager ingredients and ale fermentation in order to create something unique. Belgian lambics meanwhile use a process called ‘spontaneous’ fermentation in which they are exposed to yeast that is found naturally in the open air in regions around Southern Belgium.

And if you still can’t make up your mind then there’s only one solution – to try them all. It’s tough work but someone’s got to do it…

Star Wars: The Old Republic – Review

When Star Wars: The Old Republic was announced last year, it generated a lot of buzz. It was expected to give a tough competition to the reigning Massively Multiplayer Online game World of Warcraft. So does the game live up to its expectations? The answer is an emphatic YES! The game has a very engaging story line, which was expected of BioWare given its successful story telling history with Mass Effect and Dragon Age series.

The story

The story of The Old Republic is set in a period where Luke Skywalker and Princess Liea weren’t even born. This eliminates Lord Darth Vader’s existence too. The story is basically about how the galaxy is divided because of the war between the Sith empire and the Old Republic. There are eight stories associated with different characters, which you will be told as you move up the class ladder.

Game play

Creating your character is the first thing you need to do for participating in this MMO game. You have two choices – you can either belong to the Old Republic or the Sith empire. Needless to mention, the Sith members are the bad guys and the Old Republics are the good ones. There are four basic classes in both the groups to choose from. Sith Empire’s characters are Warrior, Inquisitor, Imperial Agent and Bounty Hunter, while the Old Republic’s characters are Jedi Knight, Jedi Consular, Jedi Smuggler and Jedi Trooper. Once you pass the first nine levels, you will be able to select the characters from one of the two sub classes in the game.

Once you start making your allegiance, you can build your own crew and then select one of the members to battle the difficult levels. The game has an interesting line of quests. There are unique quests for each character in the game and as you pass these quests you will be able to gain more power. The abilities of your character will also be enhanced as you progress up. That is not all. You will also be able to acquire more powerful weapons.

Graphics and sound effects

The voice acting is fantastic and can be considered one of the strongest points of this MMO game. The music is very apt for the situations, mellowing and raising when needed. The planets appear so life-like that you won’t feel like leaving the Star Wars Universe! Graphics wise, the game has certainly lived up to all its expectations.

The characters, the weapons and the levels are very well designed. The quest line is the best part of this Star Wars game.

So all in all Star Wars: The Old Republic is a neat game which you will surely enjoy playing. When the makers decided not to release it on free-to-play, the fans were disappointed. But buying this game is actually worth every penny. You can add the DVD to the classic section of your collections. One would have never expected such a fitting tribute to the famous film series.

Justin Bieber is the teen heart throb, originating from Canada, who was discovered on the internet. After he burst onto the music scene, his highest earning year so far ($53 Million taken) was mostly due to his documentary film release and the perfume he launched. With an incredibly talented team of publicists, managers and stylists behind him – Mr Bieber can do no wrong.

Her style change has caused controversy and has been questioned, but her earnings speak for themselves.

Selena Gomez, another Disney star on the list has made most of her money this year from TV shows, films and a few endorsements. Dakota Fanning (and her sister below) did well this year also. With $4 Million for her small part in the Twilight Saga she has secured some nice pocket money for this year!

Celebrities vs. Paparazzi! Fight!

Celebrities vs. Paparazzi is a pitched battle that has gone on ever since the National Enquirer and Heat Magazine garnered a readership. The ever growing demand of a popular culture obsessed with the minutiae of the lives of the rich and famous has led to a world where privacy for newspaper column-inch worthy individuals is a virtual impossibility. And as you’d expect sometimes the constant scrutiny and intrusion gets a bit much…

Britney Spears

This incident, it is fair to say, represents probably the lowest point of Brit’s career. Shaven headed, umbrella wielding, in sweat shorts and with a face so scary as to turn Medusa to stone she attacked a member of the paparazzi. Actually she attacked his Ford Explorer while he sat inside rubbing his hands with glee.

Avril Lavigne

The diminutive punk pop princess as you’d expect conducts herself as a starlet should. That is except when it comes to those pesky photographers. Avril has her own way of dealing with the flash happy fiends. She spits on them. Lovely. I’m not sure how effective she is as this tactic, but presumably the plan is to summon up a considerable amount of phlegm and fire it accurately at either the lens or flash of the paps instrument of torture. Like a spitting cobra I guess, but with loads of mascara and in converse All-Stars.

JK

Usually in the never-ending war between paparazzi and the famous, paps if threatened tend to make a tactical retreat. It is presumably fear of personal injury or damaged camera equipment that sends them fleeing, better to live and pap another day. However in this example JK, the hat obsessed bandy legged front man took exception to a large fellow with a camera. The said large fellow then head-butted JK, causing considerable damage.

Chris Martin

Now this guy does not like the paparazzi. No siree. Which when you’re the front man of Coldplay, one of the biggest bands on the planet, and married to Gwyneth Paltrow is likely to cause trouble. Martin isn’t one to shy away from a fist fight with the plague of photographers that chase him, but he also likes a more surreptitious approach. One such approach was to wait until a particularly persistent pap was on a break. Then while singing Yellow, Chris descended on him in his vehicle slashing his tyres and smashing his windscreen, before disappearing into the night. I added the ‘disappearing into the night’ bit. And the ‘while singing yellow’ bit.

Bjork

Airports are stressful places for everyone. Yet it seems for Bjork they hold an almost primeval fear. Naturally in light of this the Icelandic warbler reacts primordially in her response. Like a Kraken of mythological lore she rises from placid waters without warning, turning into a swirling torrent of teeth, claws and flippers attaching herself limpet like to anyone in her vicinity holding a camera, microphone or anything else resembling media equipment. It is a rage like no other.

Awesome Truck Movies You Don’t Want to Miss

Trucks have always been a part of American culture as they symbolize the revolutionary strength and resilience that defines our great nation, which is why it is also not surprising to note that the popularity of trucks have transcended real lives and have moved on to also conquer the cinematic world.

From the 1971 hit Smokey and the Bandit to the 2011 mega blockbuster animated film Cars 2, trucks have been immortalized in some of Hollywood’s most loved classics.

Here we round up a few of the most loved truck movies of all time.

1. Thieves Highway (1949) – A fast paced story about a war hero turned truck driver who will stop at nothing to avenge his father. Thieves Highway revolves around two men, Army veterans Nick and Ed, who are racing against time to get revenge and at the same time complete their delivery.

2. Convoy (1978) – Inspired by the then famous C.W. McCall song, Convoy weaves together the touching story of a band of brave, struggling truck drivers who form an alliance against an abusive and power hungry sheriff. Armed with their CB radios, this group of vigilantes forms a truck convoy to finally oust the sheriff and bring justice to their town.

3. Smokey and the Bandit (1971) – Perhaps one of the most successful truck movies ever made, Smokey and the Bandit was a huge box office success catapulting Burt Reynolds to the pinnacle of fame and likewise helped fuel the CB radio trend of the 70’s. The movie also ushered in a new brand of high octane movie genre which later films like Cannonball Run, Dukes of Hazzard and the Blues Brother all drew inspiration from. Centering on two Southern truck drivers, Smokey and the Bandit features Reynolds, a happy go lucky truck driver, and Reed, his trusted accomplice, who both agree to deliver 400 cases of beer from Arizona to Mexico in exchange for cash. Complications brew when they meet a runaway bride, played by Sally Fields, along the road. Together, they spawn action, mischief and humor wherever they go.

4. Over the Top (1987) – a riveting story about second chances and the unbreakable bond between a father and a son, Over the Top tells the story of a struggling truck driver played by Sylvester Stallone who gambles everything on an arm wrestling game. With hard work and determination, he wins the competition and gains enough money to buy his own truck and start a new life with his son.

5. Joy Ride (2001) – staying true to the theme of danger and speed, Joy Ride is a story about three teens played by Paul Walker, Steve Zahn, and Leelee Sobieski, who accidentally set off a psychotic killer who uses his truck to lure in his unsuspecting victims.

There is no denying that trucks have taken their fair share of fame. As America’s fascination with big rigs and fast cars continues to grow, we will be seeing even more of these heavy duty vehicles on the big screen.

The Five Most Interesting Movie Star Twitter Accounts

Social media sites like twitter are hugely popular for many different reasons, but one in particular is that it allows fans direct access to some of their favorite stars. Having this direct link allows people to follow and interact with stars that normally they would have no ability to contact. And with it’s popularity, it’s easy to get on and follow any number of your favorite celebrities. Here are a few exciting twitter accounts in show business that you may want to take a look at.

Alec Baldwin

Alec Baldwin is an undisputed star, and yet he finds tons of time to devote to his twitter account and followers. Much of his tweeting is political based, as Alec is big into politics, and he will openly engage in conversation with nearly anyone. Much of his ranting is in response to tweets disagreeing with his position, which makes following Alec so much fun especially if the current political landscape interests you.

Ashton Kutcher

Ashton is a frequent tweeter and an idiot, so he naturally has millions of followers. His recent run in with controversy surrounding the Penn State fiasco was not only fun to behold in real time, but a spectacular foot-in-mouth moment that can happen on twitter so easily. He has said since this incident that he will be turning over his account to his handlers who are no doubt much smarter than poor Ashton, so no word on if his account will be nearly as fun.

Joe Rogan

Joe is a stand up comedian, UFC color man(and super fan), back in the new Fear Factor, and is a frequent tweeter. This all makes for an excellent follow if any of the above are an interest to you. Any number of topics can come up on Joe’s tweets, and I find that some of the most interesting ones from Joe come following a stand up show at a particular place. He is always thankful, gracious, vulgar, and extremely sincere. Joe is an example of using tweeting up to its fullest.

Roger Ebert

Although Roger isn’t a real movie star, he is a celebrity in his own right. Everybody knows Roger from his years and years(and years) of colorful movie reviews, but Roger is an equally strong blogger. He uses tweets to announce that he may be watching a flick on AMC, and direct you to his review, or mention a topical news piece and his blog on the subject. For movie buffs, Roger Ebert is a good follow.

Patton Oswalt

Patton is one of the funniest comedians going today, as well as strong TV star. His tweets are often hilarious, and he does a nice job giving shout outs to fan-made flicks as well as some to his own favorite celebs. Patton is a great example of the positive power twitter can have for fans as well as stars. But for his own brand of comedy alone, then Patton Oswalt is a sure twitter follow.

Lady Gaga: Nuts?

Is Lady Gaga nuts? Is she crazy and off her rocker? Should we be spinning our finger by our ear when we see her walk by?

Yes.

Legally, there are three classes of mental illness that qualify as insanity: you are insane if you cannot distinguish fantasy from reality; are subject to impulsive behavior; and if you cannot conduct your business affairs due to psychosis.

And so, legally speaking, Gaga might be sane. That is, if we can get past the inability to distinguish fantasy from reality and her outrageously impulsive behavior, we must surely conclude that she is a shrewd businesswoman making money hand over fist.

Gaga’s recent Monster’s Ball tour is a great case study. First of all, monsters do not exist. She named her tour after a fiction. Already we can document her struggles with reality.
