Celebrity Engagement Rings – Going for Bling?

In Hollywood, many celebrity engagement rings seem to be getting bigger and bigger! You can see some stars with sedate carat weights, and then you’ll see a star walk in with a blinding 18 carat diamond. It begs the question – what makes them go bigger or smaller? Is it personal taste? Is it the urge to be noticed?
One side seems to be personal taste. What feels good, what works on their hand, and their own personal style. These celebs know what they want and what they like. They’re going to work that into everything they put on – but most certainly their engagement ring! They are not out to be a trendsetter, but they’re definitely going to use their resources to find something totally “them.”
Another side seems to be because they can. They have the money now, and by golly, they’re going to use it! This seems to fall into the “be noticed” category. They know when they get engaged, the light bulbs are going to pop on that hand, and they want it to be spectacular. Period. Perhaps to them it is a status symbol. Perhaps they feel they have arrived. Perhaps they even feel it is expected.
There seems to be two minds in the bling category. One side says “this is my life, there’s no reason to make big statement.” The other says, “Ooooo! Shiny!” But let’s face it. When we hear that someone has gotten engaged, our eyes immediately turn to the fourth finger of the left hand. We want to see that expression of betrothal. That’s not a celebrity thing… That’s been going on since the advent of the betrothal ring tradition. Can we blame them when celebrities go big?
I leave you with some celebrity engagement ring stats…
- Khloe Kardashian – 9 carat radiant cut diamond engagement ring
- Hillary Duff- 14 carat princess cut diamond engagement ring
- Carrie Underwood – 5 + carat brilliant cut round diamond engagement ring
- Beyonce – 18 carat emerald cut solitaire diamond engagement ring
- Mariah Carey – 17 carat square emerald cut diamond engagement ring

Jessica Simpson Denies That Tony Romo is Still After Carrie Underwood

Jessica Simpson insists her beau Tony Romo isn’t calling his ex Carrie Underwood.”I looked at his call log,” she said Wednesday in an interview with a Nashville radio station.
Of Romo, Underwood tells September’s Allure: “The phone will ring and it’ll be him, and I’ll maybe not answer.”
“Tony and I both laughed at that,” Simpson said. “We got a chuckle out of it.” Read the full story at USmagazine.com
411LowDown Take: If I was Tony Romo, I’d probably be calling Carrie too… especially after having to settle for Jessica Simpson. Actually, they’re both pretty hot, so either is a touchdown for Romo. He had a little more brains w/ Carrie Underwood and perhaps the more popular of the two (currently). With Simpson, Romo gets “chicken of the sea” and “Daisy Duke” – nuff said.
This whole story stinks of the media making something out of nothing. Sure, Carrie Underwood had something to say about Tony in Allure magazine, but you never know how the editor “quoted” her or took the quote out of context.
What? Faith Hill Claims CMA Reaction was a Joke

Faith Hill insists she’s no Kanye West. The country music superstar says she was just joking when cameras showed her screaming “WHAT?” in apparent anger when she lost the female vocalist of the year award to newcomer Carrie Underwood at the Country Music Association Awards on Monday night in Nashville.
Although her voice could not be heard, it was clear from her lips what she said. She looked visibly upset and then it looked as if she was storming off. The incident has been replayed endlessly on sites like YouTube.com.
Underwood also didn’t take it seriously, according to her publicist, Jessie Schmidt, who said that Hill spoke to Underwood after the show and that the two were fine.
Underwood, the 2005 “American Idol” champ, has become a triple platinum success since releasing her debut album late last year. Hill is a longtime darling of country music with crossover pop appeal.
This is the second time in less than a week that an awards show loss has resulted in an (apparent) on-camera freakout by a loser. Last week, Kanye West stormed the stage at the MTV Europe Music Awards and interrupted the speech of the winners, claiming his video deserved the honor. – Associated Press
I guess being on stage during the award didn’t help, but Faith claims it was a harmless joke. Afterall, what would she have to be upset about anyway… it’s not like Carrie came out of nowhere (wink) or has become a start very quickly (wink, wink), all while Faith has been working on her career for decades, coming up slowly from nothing
The reaction appeared genuine, but we’ll never know because it’s easy to play it off as nothing now. I’ll bet her hubby, Tim McGraw, was just as upset when Kenny Chesney won the CMA’s biggest award (best entertainer).
