But during the last several years, a class of pseudo-celebs has descended upon us – people whose only “gift” to the screen is how painfully and comically embarassing they are. Reality TV has given these con artists room to thrive, and we profile 7 of them below.

Did somebody say Jager Bombs? Michael Sorrentino (better known as “The Situation”) is one of the biggest names in reality TV. Staring on the show “The Jersey Shore,” Sorrentino got his fame from being the archetypical loud, obnoxious guido from Jersey, and is now raking in an absolute killing because of it. Painful as it is to read, The Huffington Post reports that Sorrentino will be taking home over $5 million this year for his on screen antics. On the bright side, with that kind of money Sorrentino will never have to worry about running out of tanning oil and hair gel.

In the world of undeserving celebrities, Kim Kardashian reigns supreme. For those unaware, Kim is the daughter of one of OJ Simpson’s defense lawyers who rocketed to stardom on the strength of an explicit sex tape leak. The woman now has her own TV show and rakes in $40,000 per episode according to CelebrityNetWorth.com. Ms. Kardashian also owns her own clothing line and boasts a $12 million net worth. When she isn’t on set, she can be found hanging out with the next young fake celeb on our list, Paris Hilton.

Combined with her now defunct television reality show “The Simple Life,” has allowed her to build a $45 million net worth. It seems cosmically unfair somehow that in a couple of episodes of drinking, fighting, and making out with random guys, Snooki can put away an entire yearly salary of most well paid college graduates. It’s true – “The Situation” isn’t the only Jersey kid to earn big bucks on the show. MovieLine.com reports that female costar Snooki is paid $30,000/episode for “The Jersey Shore,” easily boosting her net worth into the high hundreds of thousands, if not millions if she is smart about it. Of course, the entire point of The Jersey Shore is that none of the stars are very smart, so one can never be too sure how that money is used.

Scandalous reality TV superstar Tila Tequila is another undeserving celebrity who rose to stardom for no other reason than her good looks and willingness to make out with other girls on camera. Though most of us who spent any time on a college campus can probably name several girls who meet that same description, Tila managed to squeeze over $1.5 million out of her lifestyle according to CelebrityNetWorth.com. Currently, her defunct reality show “A Shot At Love” is still her biggest claim to fame, though Ms. Tequila occasionally does modeling for magazines such as Maxim and FHM.

Though he may have started out doing magic on the streets, master illusionist David Blaine has since risen to become one of the highest paid magicians in the world. Blaine got his break when he scored a television show called “Street Magic” that followed him around as he performed tricks on random strangers live for the camera. Since then, Blaine has focused mostly on paid performances and appearances, which is where he makes most of his money. ChaCha reports that he has an estimated $2 million yearly income, which is significantly higher than his competitor Criss Angel (valued at $1.3 million/year).

Lauren Conrad has been the star of the hit MTV reality shows “Laguna Beach,” and “The Hills,” earning her a spot as one of the highest paid TV celebrities of all time. The Huffington Post reports that last year, Conrad was paid $125,000 per episode of The Hills, a salary that would make some movie stars gawk after a single season. Conrad did not join the show for its final season in 2010, however with the ability to command a salary as high as her’s, her options sure won’t be limited.

MTV’s TRL Canceled!

Total Request Live has been canceled after ten years, MTV confirmed on Monday.”Ten a great number,” Dave Sirulnick, executive producer of TRL told the Associated Press. “This feels like the right time and let’s celebrate it and let’s reward it.”

He added “Let’s let it have a little bit of a rest for a minute. Been working hard for 10 years!”

Total Request Live (or TRL for short) was a decent show for a short time back in the late 90′s, but quickly lost its appeal as corporate interests overtook the real purpose of the show – showing the days top videos.Â As with everything on MTV over time, the videos began having less & less of a role on the popular TV show.

The hosts have always been lame, but getting to see the best videos & new release pretty much every day was a pleasure & something that many teens looked forward to each afternoon.Â The show eventually became plagued with celebrity and musician appearances, performances and the general non-video garbage that plagues the station at this time.

Hopefully, the cancellation of TRL and the (hopefully) declining performance in their (scripted) reality shows will lead MTV to put the music videos back on the air.Â No one cares about The Hills, Sweet Sixteen or The Real World (on drugs).

Let us pray for the day the videos come back to play.
